Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day of arrival and have enough blank pages for visas and entry/exit stamps. Itinerary
Day01Flight to Cairo – GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM – Pyramids of Giza – Sphinx – papyrus workshop (full-day tour with lunch)
Flight to Cairo. We meet our local representative and the Egypt visa is arranged straight away.
Visit and guided tour of the brand-new GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM, the largest museum of an ancient civilisation in the world, with unique treasures of the Pharaohs. Break for coffee at Coffee Island at the Pyramids. Guided tour of the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, an experience of a lifetime. Lunch at a local restaurant in Cairo. Visit to Cairo's papyrus and perfume workshops. Transfer and check-in at the hotel.Day02Cairo – Citadel – Saint George – Old Cairo – National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (the new home of the Pharaohs) – Khan el-Khalili bazaar (full-day tour with lunch)
After breakfast our day starts at Saladin's medieval Citadel. We tour Old Cairo, which has strong Greek links, visiting the Church of Saint George, where the saint was imprisoned and martyred, the crypts of the Patriarchs of Alexandria and the Greek cemetery of Cairo. Guided tour of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), the new home of the Pharaohs, whose Royal Mummies Hall is designed to make you feel you are inside a real royal tomb. Lunch at a local restaurant in Cairo. Stroll through the bustling Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
Day03Cairo – excursion to Alexandria with lunch at a local restaurant
After breakfast we leave on a full-day excursion to Alexandria, the city founded by Alexander the Great. Guided tour inside the new Library of Alexandria, a unique architectural achievement. We see the Greek Patriarchate, the old Greek community and the Qaitbay fortress, built on the site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, as well as the house of the Alexandrian poet Constantine Cavafy. Lunch at a local restaurant in Alexandria.
Late afternoon return to Cairo.Day04Cairo – optional 4x4 jeep safari to the Fayoum Oasis and Magic Lake
After breakfast those who wish travel to the Fayoum Oasis for a 4x4 jeep safari in the Valley of the Whales. We visit Wadi El Rayan, a protected national park covering some 700 square miles, and drive to the Magic Lake, whose waters change colour with the time of day and the angle of the sun. Lunch at a local restaurant. Late afternoon return to Cairo.
*The activity is run by experienced English-speaking drivers.*Day05Cairo – optional excursion to Memphis and Saqqara
After breakfast those who wish travel to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, to admire the famous alabaster sphinx. We continue to the necropolis of Saqqara, 42 km from central Cairo. Return to Cairo at midday.
Day06Cairo – free day – return flight
Breakfast and a free day in Cairo. Take a felucca cruise on the Nile, explore the markets and boutiques of Zamalek, try authentic Egyptian food at the Naguib Mahfouz Café in Khan el-Khalili or discover crafts and local brands at Cairo Festival City.
Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
