A CULTURAL, HISTORICAL AND GASTRONOMIC JOURNEY BEGINS!
The home of sumo and judo, sushi and sake, samurai and geishas, Honda and Toyota.
One of the main reasons to visit Japan is its rich cultural heritage. The country is home to a wealth of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the historic temples of Nara and the original castle at Matsumoto. These sites offer a glimpse into Japan’s fascinating past and allow visitors to immerse themselves in centuries-old traditions. Japan is also famous for its delicious cuisine. From fresh sushi and sashimi to hearty ramen and crispy tempura, Japanese food is a gastronomic delight to suit every taste. Food lovers will be thrilled by the culinary experiences Japan has to offer. For nature lovers, Japan’s varied landscapes provide plenty of opportunities for exploration. Whether you are hiking through its lush forests, bathing in a traditional onsen with a view of Mount Fuji, or walking along streets filled with cherry blossom in spring, Japan’s natural beauty is truly awe-inspiring. Finally, the hospitality and courtesy of the Japanese people make a visit to Japan a warm and welcoming experience. The attention to detail in customer service, known as “omotenashi”, ensures that visitors feel well cared for and respected throughout their stay.

Notes
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure from the destination country.
- Seat selection on the aircraft is not always guaranteed; it depends solely on the policy of each airline for “group” bookings, which differs from that for bookings of “individual tickets”. Most airlines now charge for seat selection even on “group” bookings, and at the same time do not offer any possibility of changing the seat, which is assigned automatically by the electronic system with no way for our agency to intervene. A change may be possible at the airline desk during individual check-in at the airport, always subject to availability, but this cannot be guaranteed. In any case, our agency always makes every possible effort to ensure that travellers sit together on flights, per booking, free of charge, wherever this is feasible. If you wish, ask us about the rules followed by the airline you will be flying with, so that you are informed and any misunderstandings are avoided.
- The final programme is delivered with your travel information pack, approximately two weeks before departure.
- Half board is offered mainly in selected local restaurants with a themed character, giving travellers the chance to experience Japan’s unique gastronomy at first hand. During the trip we will have the opportunity to sample characteristic Japanese flavours such as sushi and ramen, and also to discover different ways of cooking and dining, such as sukiyaki, okonomiyaki and yakiniku, where the food is prepared right at the table. Particular emphasis is placed on the ritual of the meal, which is an integral part of Japanese culture and expresses values such as respect, balance and aesthetics. Please note that portions in Japan are usually smaller than in other countries and are aimed not at quantity but at variety, allowing you to enjoy more flavours in the same meal, in perfect balance and harmony.
If any traveller has allergies or does not wish to take part in one of the special meals, such as sukiyaki, okonomiyaki or yakiniku, please let us know on the day the tour is booked so that the necessary arrangements can be made. - The agency reserves the right to reschedule activities in date or time, without omitting them, for the better running of the programme.
- Prices have been calculated using the yen/euro exchange rate on the costing date of 26/09/2025. If the difference is significant, the final price may be adjusted 20 days before departure.
- Optional excursions require a minimum number of participants to go ahead.
- Hotel rooms are of the basic (standard) category on a random floor/view. Rooms on a high floor and with a specific view are available on request at an extra charge.
- Hotel rooms are much smaller than European standards. Single rooms are in many cases even smaller than the corresponding doubles. Triple rooms are on request.
- Breakfast in 3* hotels is often Japanese, served on a tray.
- Travellers of non-Greek nationality or holders of non-Greek passports must contact the embassy of the country they wish to travel to directly, in order to find out about any procedures for issuing a visa, if one is required.
- Since the pandemic, changes are sometimes seen in the tourism sector, and especially with airlines. In particular, airlines may change or cancel flights without any warning or notice to us, as also in the event of a work stoppage or strike. In this case our agency cannot intervene with the airline, which will be responsible for rerouting and rebooking the traveller’s ticket to their final destination. If an overnight stay is required, the hotel accommodation is at the customer’s expense, and the customer has the right to claim compensation from the airline.
- Due to the heavy workload at airports worldwide, there are sometimes delays in the timely delivery of baggage. We recommend keeping some essentials in your hand luggage in case your baggage is not delivered on time. Responsibility lies solely with the airline, which is obliged to send your baggage on to you. The tour leader can only help and guide you, but neither they nor our agency are responsible for the outcome of the process.
- Participation in the tour means that you unreservedly accept the General Terms of Participation.

We start at the red arched Shinkyo bridge over the Daiya river. We then head towards the mountain lake Chuzenji, enjoying the wonderful scenery that surrounds it. On arrival in Kyoto, our next stop is the popular Arashiyama bamboo forest, located in the village of Sagano on the western side of the city, which offers an enchanting walk among tall bamboo stalks. We continue to Nishiki Market, known as Nishiki Ichiba. It is a historic and lively food market that has been operating for several centuries and is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The market is often referred to as “Kyoto’s Kitchen” because of its wide variety of fresh, local food products. Our next stop, also important to the history of Japan, is the Samurai Museum. There we will hear the story of the samurai and ninja and try our luck at a “game” with shuriken throwing stars. Transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day07KYOTO
(Fushimi Inari Shrine – Kiyomizu-dera Temple – Gion)
Today our first stop is the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine with its thousands of red torii gates, dedicated to the god of rice. Inari shrines are home to the guardian deities of business success, family prosperity, road safety and improvement in the performing arts. Our next stop is the sacred Kiyomizu-dera temple. We walk up to the temple, which was originally founded in 778 AD. The name “Kiyomizu” means “pure water” and comes from a nearby stream, while “dera” means “temple”. The temple’s distinctive feature is its wooden platform, known as “Kiyomizu no Butai” (the stage of Kiyomizu), which juts out from the main hall and offers stunning panoramic views over Kyoto. After our tour of the temple we walk down to the traditional Sannenzaka neighbourhood, known for its elegant paving and the traditional shops, restaurants and cafés that line it. Our final stop for today is Gion, the geisha district. Gion is one of the areas of Kyoto where, if you are lucky, you may see geisha and maiko. Geishas are entertainers who specialise in various traditional arts such as dance, music and conversation. Traditional sukiyaki dinner in the area and return to our hotel independently. After Gion you can take a stroll through picturesque Pontocho, where you will find traditional restaurants and bars.
Day08KYOTO – NARA (Guided tour) – OSAKA
This morning we leave for Osaka, stopping on the way for a guided tour of Nara as well as the Uji area. In the Uji area we will visit a matcha tea workshop, where we will try making our own tea in the traditional way and see how it is served. Our next stop will be Nara, and specifically Todai-ji temple, home to the colossal bronze statue of the Daibutsu (Great Buddha), 16 metres tall and weighing 550 tonnes. This temple, whose name loosely translates as “Great Eastern Temple”, was built in 752 by Emperor Shōmu as the administrative centre of all the Buddhist temples of the Nara region. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Todai-ji reflects the richness of Japanese history and culture. We continue deeper into Nara Park, where we will come across hundreds of tame, free-roaming deer, which are considered sacred and a symbol of peace. Shortly before leaving Nara we will find ourselves in the Naramachi neighbourhood. It is known for its well-preserved traditional machiya (merchant townhouse) architecture and narrow winding lanes, offering a glimpse of old Japan. In Naramachi we will come across traditional merchant houses, breweries, tea houses and various shops that have been operating for generations. Many of these buildings date from the Edo period (1603-1868) and the Meiji period (1868-1912). We continue to Osaka Castle and its wonderful gardens. Osaka Castle is considered one of the most famous and best preserved in Japan. Although it is essentially a replica of the original (the original burned down three times in the course of its history), it still impresses today with its sheer size, its exterior decoration with gold leaf and its verdant grounds.
