Bhutan

Bhutan, a hidden jewel in the eastern Himalayas, is a country of astonishing beauty and serene landscapes, with Thimphu as its capital. Bordered by China to the north and India to the south, Bhutan covers about 38,394 square kilometres. Despite its small size, the kingdom is home to around 780,000 people. Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy with a king (Druk Gyalpo) as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The state religion is Vajrayana Buddhism, led by the Je Khenpo.
The diversity of the terrain, from lush subtropical plains in the south to snow-capped peaks in the north, gives the country a wide range of climates. In the summer months, from June to September, monsoon rains sweep the country and leave it green and vibrant. Winters, from December to February, bring cold temperatures, especially at higher altitudes, in sharp contrast with the mild seasons of spring and autumn.
